Something I Can Hold

Aluminum cans, black tea, milk.

An installation series of full and empty Royal Milk Tea cans, in changing arrangements of rows, stacks, and towers. The cans as containers, whole or cutout, oscillate in function — switching back and forth between concealing and revealing their contents.

Cutouts, a violent but careful modification, in one way make the cans lighter, but also point toward an absence — a loss of capacity, and the ghost of a heavier thing. Cultural associations with red kanji, and white and blue chinoiserie motifs are replaced with a reflection, which contain, abstract, and diffuse a new image.
